Spatial Development Initiatives (SDI's)

Spatial Development Initiatives (SDI's)

These initiatives were implemented in 1995. SDI's are programs for the development of economical activities needed for the improvement of the infrastructure in the country.

These have anchor projects like a substational transport link or  mineral mining that atracts big investors and create economical activity in the country.
Also there is a close interaction between the state and private enterprise.

Under the SDI's there are the lives of people which were hugely affected in the Apartheid time.

Film Review

Film review

The development project is a good idea because they learn how to use resources to help them build houses and to teach them skills. In this video a company helps the local people how to make their own bricks which then can be used to build their houses. This is a good idea because now they don’t have to rely on the government to get their brick houses and it also good against crime because now they don’t depend on crime for their resources anymore. Also this can inspire other rural areas in the area to also do a project like that but this doesn’t have to be how to make bricks it can be for example teaching people how to make their own clothing and give them the resources to do this.
